     The Power of Jesus' Name

There is power in the name of Jesus! Each week, meditate on one verse daily until the power of Jesus' Name becomes a reality in your life:

  1. "For where two or three are gathered together in MY NAME, there am I in the midst of them" (Matt. 18:20).
  2. "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In MY NAME shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues"  (Mark 16:17).
  3. "And whatsoever ye shall ask in MY NAME, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son" (John 14:13).
  4. "For whosoever shall call upon THE NAME OF THE LORD shall be saved" (Rom. 10:13).
  5. "And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS..." (Col. 3:17).
  6. "Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in THE NAME OF THE LORD" (James 5:14).

POWER IN THE NAME

There is great power in the name of Jesus. He has shown us the power in His Name.  Jesus himself, has given us authority to use his name. Meditate on the following Scriptures. You will see the power available to "born again believers" when the Name of Jesus is used according to Jesus' own direction:

John 14:13 "And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.   (NKJ)

Ps 89:24  "But My faithfulness and My mercy shall be with him, and in My name his horn shall be exalted.   (NKJ)

Matt 18:5  "Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.  (NKJ)

Matt 18:20  "For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them." (NKJ)

Mark 9:37  "Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me, receives not Me but Him who sent Me." (NKJ)

Mark 9:39   But Jesus said, "Do not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me. (NKJ)

Mark 9:41   "For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward." (NKJ)

Mark 13:6  "For many will come in My name, saying, `I am He,' and will deceive many. (NKJ)

Mark 16:17  "And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; (NKJ)

Luke 9:48  and said to them, "Whoever receives this little child in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me. For he who is least among you all will be great." (NKJ)

Luke 21:8   And He said: "Take heed that you not be deceived. For many will come in My name, saying, `I am He,' and, `The time has drawn near.' Therefore do not go after them. (NKJ)

John 14:14  "If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. (NKJ)

John 14:26  "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. (NKJ)

John 15:16  "You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. (NKJ)

John 16:23  "And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. (NKJ)

John 16:24  "Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.''(NKJ)

John 16:26 "In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you;"   (NKJ)

When Jesus walked the earth his name had great power.

The following Scriptures show the use of his name and the power to heal the most terrible afflictions. These people called out to Jesus in faith.

Mark 10:46-52 Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (that is, the Son of Timaeus), was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." So they called to the blind man, "Cheer up! On your feet! He's calling you." Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus. "What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked him. The blind man said, "Rabbi, I want to see." "Go," said Jesus, "your faith has healed you." Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road. (NIV)

Luke 17:11-16 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, "Jesus, Master, have pity on us!" When he saw them, he said, "Go, show yourselves to the priests." And as they went, they were cleansed. One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him-- and he was a Samaritan. (NIV)

There is such power in the name of Jesus that it boggles my imagination, for the Scripture says:

Phil 2:9-11

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (NIV)

That means that everyone ever born will someday bow when the name of "Jesus" is mentioned. They will not only bow but will acknowledge Jesus as Lord.

Right now, those who believe in Jesus and acknowledge him in this lifetime as Lord and Savior, already have the power to use his name. Those who do not belong to Jesus cannot use his name in power. See the following:

"Then some itinerant Jewish exorcists tried to use the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, 'I adjure you by the Jesus whom Paul proclaims.' Seven sons of a Jewish high priest named Sceva were doing this. But the evil spirit said to them in reply, 'Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?' Then the man with the evil spirit leaped on them, mastered them all, and so overpowered them that they fled out of the house naked and wounded. When this became known to all residents of Ephesus, both Jews and Greeks, everyone was awestruck; and the name of the Lord Jesus was praised. Acts 19:13-17.

These miracles caused people to realize that Jesus of Nazareth was not just an itinerant preacher. His name truly had power.

Acts 3:1-10 One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer-- at three in the afternoon. Now a man crippled from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, "Look at us!" So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. Then Peter said, "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk." Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man's feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. When all the people saw him walking and praising God, they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. NIV)

God performed miracles when the Apostles used the name of Jesus in faith, believing in the power of his name.

"But these [signs] are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name." John 20:31.

Jesus himself promised to answer prayer which was directed to God the Father in Jesus' name.

John 16:23 "Very truly, I tell you, if you ask anything of the Father in my name, he will give it to you."

Baptism and repentance in Jesus name brought believers to a place of forgiveness and an openness to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

"Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." Acts 2:38.

When believers walk in faith, their deeds are done in thanks to God and in the name of Jesus, life changes.

"Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." Col. 3:17.

When you have given your life to Jesus of Nazareth, believing that he gave his life on the cross to give you eternal life, then you too can use the Name of Jesus in power. His name is available to all believers.

Use the Name of the Lord and prophecy according to His Word as He gives you utterance. Remember it is for The Father's Glory that there is power in Jesus' Name.
