SECOND OPINION - A Grandmother's Answer to Healthcare Crises

Second Opinion:

A Grandmother's Answer to

               Healthcare crises

Life, it seems, is a series of decisions, then living with the results of those decisions. The trouble is that much of the time the information on which we base our decisions is only partial at best, or even downright false. Such has been my personal experience, and from many years of observation, it seems common to us all.

This grandmother has learned a lot, and bad decisions have over time, helped build in some wisdom. Since there have been many opportunities for new beginnings, both the present and future look hopeful. In this writing and others to follow, I want to share the reasons, drawn from biblical faith and factual science, why I don't expect to leave this world in a diseased and miserable state. It is my fervent hope and prayer that those who read will come to share this view and act on their new knowledge and understanding. When enough of us know and practice the truth in regard to our health, we will no longer be victimized by ignorant and/or greedy interests, caring more for our money than our well-being.

Are you ready for a grand adventure? Then strap yourself in and let's go!

SEARCHING FOR THE TRUTH

When we want to know the truth about something, we need to know where to look. We need to do our homework, and that includes defining terms. For instance:

Health - A dictionary definition of 'health' emphasizes the 'optimal functioning with freedom from disease and abnormality.'

Care - of course, refers to the means of obtaining that health.

For many years in the U.S.A., the emphasis has NOT been on health, and the education we need to maintain optimum health,

but instead, the emphasis has been on disease, its diagnosis and treatment. This is the system which has spun out of control and which is bankrupting victims, their families, and the nation.

In my opinion the recent administrations were correct in wanting to change the status quo. But is the root problem being addressed, or are the 'health care' plans just attempts to throw more of the American public's tax money into a black hole, further robbing us of our constitutional right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? There are hundreds of thousands of Americans who have had their own or family member's lives cut short, or handicapped because of the American medical system's willful ignorance of simple health truths.

Here are several vital questions to consider if we truly desire to have healthy bodies, minds and pocketbooks:

1. Am I willing to take responsibility for my own health,

not foisting it on someone else

(family, doctor, government, insurance company)?

(  ) yes   (  ) no

2. If yes, am I willing to do my homework

and educate myself in basic health?

(  ) yes   (  ) no

3. If I'm not willing to be responsible for my own health,

am I willing to pay the price of following the crowd,

and accept the urging of so-called experts who are more

interested in disease than in my health,

and pay them exorbitant fees for their advice and

intervention, once I am diseased?

(  )  yes   (  )  no

4. Am I willing to bankrupt my children and

grandchildren because I said yes to #3?

(  )  yes   (  )  no

MAY THIS CONVERSATION WITH YOURSELF

CLARIFY THESE ISSUES FOR YOU,

AND CAUSE YOU TO SEEK FURTHER FOR THE TRUTH.

HEALTH -- WHAT IS IT?

Health connotes normalcy, vibrancy, physical and mental wholeness, attractiveness, activity and productivity. It can mean physical and mental freedom.

Disease on the other hand, brings to mind a slowing down,

a degeneration, an ugliness; physical and mental bondage,

leading to death.

When God received me and turned me around in 1960, the first thing He did after forgiving and healing me, was to plunge me into the water of His word. I've never really come up for air, because His ocean of love and truth is so satisfying.

When you are seeking healing and maintenance of health for your mind and emotions (soul) and body, it is vital to know the truth and to declare it in faith, of Proverbs 4:20-22.

"My son, give attention to my words, incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your sight; Keep them in the midst of your heart, for THEY ARE LIFE TO THOSE WHO FIND THEM, AND HEALTH TO ALL THEIR WHOLE BODY."

The word of God makes it clear that although some people's illnesses are trials meant to be overcome, and are not the result of sin, most illness is due to the harvest reaped from thoughts and actions generated by the flesh - that is, by sin.

In short, if you seek health, start with your relationship with God.

One of the greatest sources of wisdom for this life is contained in the book of Proverbs. It is believed to have been written largely by the man God described as wiser than any other until his time; that is, King Solomon. It is a treasure house of wisdom, richly repaying the honest seeker.

Considering the mind and the tongue as a unit, for it is the tongue which expresses the ideas and emotions of the soul, God says:

Behold, the ships also, though they are so great and are driven by strong winds, are still directed by a very small rudder, wherever the inclination of the pilot desires. So also the tongue is a small part of the body, and yet it boasts of great things.

Behold, how great a forest is set aflame by such a small fire!

And the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity, the tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire body, and sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by hell.

For every species of beasts and birds, of reptiles and creatures of the sea, is tamed, and has been tamed by the human race.

But no one can tame the tongue, it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God.

From the same mouth come both blessing and cursing.

My brethren, these things ought not to be this way.

(James 3:4-10)

Could it be that the attitudes of our minds, and the words to which they give birth, affect the health of our bodies as well?

Even non-Christian researchers today answer in the affirmative.

Everything that we allow to live in our thought life, and especially what we speak, returns to us for good or evil. Our physical and mental health is constantly being affected by our thoughts and our words:

The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all transgressions. (Proverbs 12:18)

Many a time I have overcome the devil's attacks on my mind or body, by speaking the truths of Scripture, believing them. Many times also, have I been helped and blessed by the loving words of faith and truth spoken by others.

THE BIOCHEMICAL CONNECTION

What we take into our physical selves affects both body and mind. Research scientists have proven for instance, that refined sugar, refined flour, chemical preservatives and food coloring are worthless and harmful to our minds and bodies.

Dr. Ben Feingold of the Kaiser-Permanente Institute in California, studied the effects of these chemicals on children's behavior for many years. Dr. Feingold's book, "Why Your Child is Hyper-active" is an indictment of the policies of the food industry, the medical profession and of government regulation

(the Food and Drug Administration - FDA).

Dr. George Watson, another nutritional researcher, in his book,

"Nutrition and Your Mind", documents case histories of adults whose mental as well as physical health was restored through a diet excluding all chemicals and refined sugar, and including megadoses of vitamin and mineral supplements.

In addition, individuals are allergically sensitive to various foods and other substances. If we are wise, we learn to be highly selective of what we allow to enter our bodies as food, or drink, or in the air we breath. I was led to buy an air-cleaning machine for my bedroom.

The current controversy concerning the safety and effectiveness of vaccines is a landmark and will no doubt be a major part of the American peoples' awakening to truth. As long as an individual or family lives in darkness - oppressed by hellish lies about their options and about God's desire for their healing and health - America will be shackled by her enemies.

Like many other people, I began to study nutrition with the books of Adele Davis. The motivation was strong, for my husband, Jim had cancer and I concluded that his diet was of great importance to his recovery. This was in the early 1970s before articles linking diet with cancer began appearing in the popular press. From that start, I've learned from many honest researchers and from my own prayerful experimentation concerning the use of natural foods, vitamin and mineral supplements and herbs.

Increasing numbers of medical doctors are making the change from drugs to an emphasis on nutrition, but they have trouble with their peers. Parents and school dietitians and mental health therapists can go a long way toward assuring the physical and mental health of the coming generation of adults  by studying the best contemporary literature on natural health, usually available in health food stores. Then they can apply the knowledge and wisdom found there to their respective fields of endeavor. In the meantime, we can learn and practice good nutrition in our homes, where it matters the most.

THE FOOD INDUSTRY WILL SHAPE UP AND STOP FEEDING US POISONS WHEN WE EXERCISE OUR GOD-GIVEN FREEDOM OF CHOICE AND DISSENT BY BOYCOTT.

A major example today is the stand taken against the use of genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) in the food supply.

Global companies representing hundreds of popular products found on our grocery store shelves are represented in the article found at the following internet address. These companies made large contributions to defeat the California Proposition 37, which would have required labeling of products containing GMO ingredients. We must ask -- WHY?

Did their motive favor their financial bottom line, and therefore the continuing deterioration of the health of the American public?

We believe the reader will find that the answer is

YES!

A remarkable book came to our attention -- J.I. Rodale's              "Natural Health, Sugar and the Criminal Mind." Did you know for instance, that both Napoleon and Hitler had enormous cravings for sugar-sweetened foods and ate them constantly?

Carlton Fredericks, a foremost writer on nutritional therapeutics, talks about orthomolecular (right molecule) science in his book,

"Psycho-Nutrition":

"I asked an orthomolecular psychiatrist why he had discarded his couch in favor of foods and vitamins. He remarked that he used to 'treat' schizophrenia by psychoanalysis, digging into the mind to bring up subconscious material. It was a comfortable practice which had only one drawback: the patients didn't get better. He became frustrated with the non-productive talk-tranquilizer treatment, turned to megavitamin therapy, and found that his patients were not only getting well, but contrary to all experience with all therapies for schizophrenics, were staying well. Other physicians, he noted, were fascinated with his results, and adopted the new approach. Blanket resistance came from psychiatrists, primarily, who obviously were condemning the treatment without having observed it. One of his patients was the clinical psychologist who, with his help, struggled from the depths of catatonic schizophrenia, and whose story is told in Chapter One. She is back in practice."

(We return here to Chapter One of Carlton Fredericks',

"Psycho-Nutrition" for the description of the problems and recovery of the lady clinical psychologist:

"In the second case I mentioned above, a psychotherapist found herself catatonic - a prisoner within her own body . . .

She developed most of the classical symptoms of schizophrenia: hearing voices, feeling suicidally depressed without cause, considering herself unworthy to live, and suffering from unprovoked anxieties and unjustified fears. Conventional psychiatric treatment not only did not help, but allowed the disease to worsen until, as she describes it she consulted an orthomolecular psychiatrist, feeling herself to be at the end of her resources and prepared to destroy herself. Examination showed a severe hypoglycemia (which is present in perhaps sixty percent of schizophrenics), and the practitioner promptly placed her on a sugar-free diet, with megavitamin dosages. She is now in practice as a highly effective psychotherapist - the most so, perhaps, because 'she's been there.' As a side note which is relevant in the light of preceding statements in this chapter, she is having troubles with local medical men and psychiatrists because she insists on correction of the diets and the institution of vitamin and other nutritional treatments for the children with whom she works - and works very effectively, it should be noted."

(emphasis by present author.)

This last excerpt from Carlton Fredericks' "Psycho-Nutrition" is a strong warning to parents who feed their children and grandchildren things that actually poison their minds and bodies.

"Occasionally the patient is not a voluntary victim of the bad habit, but his peers or his parents become advocates. I recall a New York psychiatrist who could not persuade the patient's mother that her son, who had largely been normalized by a hypoglycemia diet and megavitamins, was literally being pressed into psychotic behavior by the cola drinks, candy and cookies with which she 'rewarded' him. The psychiatrist, in her presence, gave the twenty-six-year-old several bottles of a cola drink; half an hour later the patient was lying on the floor, weeping, curled up in the fetal position with his thumb in his mouth, and calling for his mother - who was within arm's reach of him. 'Oh my God!' she murmured. 'I didn't realize . . .'

She might be echoed by the talk-therapist who tries to treat such a patient by probing his subconscious."

(Carlton Fredericks, "Psycho-Nutrition", p. 109)
